William Wright “Bill” Kemp, age 79, of Greenville, Michigan, passed away late Thursday evening, June 18, 2026 at his home under the loving care of his family and Corewell Health Hospice.
The son of Cass Wright & Bernice (Stevens) Kemp, he was born on February 16, 1947 in Greenville, Michigan, and was a 1965 graduate of Greenville Senior High School. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Bill served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth-Class and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Marksman (Rifle M-14) Badge.
Following his honorable discharge, he eventually returned home to Greenville and the family business, Kemp Insurance Sure, serving as president at the time of his death. A longtime fixture in downtown Greenville, Bill could be found at breakfast, coffee, or lunch roundtables, had served on several City of Greenville commissions and boards over the years, and had volunteered on the chain gang for Greenville High School football games for over 30 years. He was a member of Sigma Theta and later in life enjoyed collecting and customizing pellet rifles, but found his greatest joy in time spent with his family.
On August 8, 1981, in Greenville, he married Deborah June “Debbie” Aylsworth and together they raised three children and enjoyed almost 37 years of marriage until Debbie passed away on February 9, 2018.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Cass & Bernice Kemp; two brothers, Stanley S. Kemp and Cass C. Kemp; and his parents-in-law, Claude & Audrey Aylsworth.
Surviving are his three children, Steve Kemp of Greenville, Jenny & Scott Burnham of Marshall, and Charley & Denise Kemp of Big Rapids; his daughter-in-law, Erin Kemp; his precious grandchildren, Annie Kemp, Will Kemp, Isabelle Burnham, Amelia Burnham, Evelyn Kemp, and Adeline Kemp; siblings-in-law, Marcia Kemp, Shelley Kemp, Cindy & Mike Raby, Tom & Shawn Aylsworth, and Jon & Paula Aylsworth; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life with his family from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101, 1320 W. Washinton Street (M-57), Greenville.
Instead of flowers, Bill would have appreciated contributions in his memory to Corewell Health Hospice.
As Bill wished, private committal services, with military honors, will be held at the Kemp Family Plot at Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville.
