First published in the Daily News on Feb 21, 2026Jeffrey (Jeff) Thomas Brown, age 78, of Zionsville, IN, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026. Jeff was born in Greenville, Michigan, on April 22, 1947, to the late Thomas E. Brown and Doris (Bissell) Brown.
Jeff served in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. After the Army, he briefly worked for the Montcalm County Sheriff's Department in Stanton, Michigan, before moving to the Greenville Public Safety Department in Greenville, Michigan, where he retired as a Lieutenant after 23 years of service.
Jeff had a lifelong appreciation for vintage cars and enjoyed spending time tinkering in his workshop. He was an avid hunter and, at one point, studied taxidermy. Above all, Jeff had a natural gift for storytelling and will be remembered best by family and friends for the hours spent around the card table.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris, his sister, Kristie Lea (Brown) VanSyckle, sister-in-law, Janice Kosak, and brother-in-law, Tom Siegel. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane; his sons, Jeffrey Jr. (Ellie) of Zionsville, IN, and Jason (Anya) of Carmel, IN; his grandchildren, Sydney, Sam, Sophia, Gus, and Aubrey; his brother-in-law, Bob VanSyckle of Greenville, MI; his nephew, Toby VanSyckle of Charlotte, MI; his niece, Heather (Jim) Ebels of Greenville, MI; his sister-in-law, Carol Siegel of Grand Rapids, MI; his brother-in-law, Frank Kosak of Grand Rapids, MI; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that those wishing to honor Jeff consider making a donation to K-9s for Warriors in recognition of his military service and his love of animals.
Catherman, Rhonda Lou (Roberts) ( - )
First published in the Daily News on Feb 24, 2026Rhonda Lou (Roberts) Catherman, age 79, of Crystal, passed away on February 19, 2026 at Carson - UM Health-Sparrow Hospital surrounded by loving family. Rhonda (known as “Lou Lou” to her grand-children, and “Aunt Rhonda” to many others) was born in Lansing. MI on July 19, 1946, the daughter of Mark and Huberta Roberts. She graduated from Sexton High School in 1964, and married Ronald Catherman on March 20, 1965. Lou Lou hosted a daycare in their Grand Ledge home for 26 years and kept in touch with many of the children as they grew up. She was awarded “Homemaker of the Year” Eaton County 4H Fair,1989.
Rhonda spent her life caring for children with lots of love, laughter, and fun. Each season and holiday was cause for celebration in the Catherman home. Rhonda spent decades as a den-mother for her son’s Boy Scouts, then troop Leader for her daughter’s Girl Scouts, enjoying many summers as a counselor for “Mom-and-Me” camp with Rachel at Camp Deer Trails. She and her husband later moved to Crystal, MI to enjoy retirement. Few things brought her more happiness than visiting with family and friends. She seldom met anyone who did not quickly become a friend. Rhonda enjoyed sending cards and letters of encouragement and always treasured receiving them as well.
As a member of the Crystal Church of God, you would often find her teaching a Sunday school class or organizing Summer VBS. Her personal relationship with Jesus brought her comfort and joy, which she loved sharing with others, ending every phone call with “God Bless!”
Rhonda is survived by husband Ronald; son Rick (Susie Stolz), and daughter Rachel (Adam Hopkins); granddaughters Olivia Catherman and Lylee Jane Hopkins (Ethan Smith), and grandsons Addison Hopkins (Emily), Aiden Hopkins. She was overjoyed to be able to experience the birth of her great-grandchild Grayson Hopkins, last November.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents and sister Pam (Roberts)Reeves.
A memorial celebrating her life is being planned for Summer 2026. The family would like to thank the Laurels Senior Living Community of Carson City for their comfort and care in her last months.

Marlene Mary Gilbert (Wood) was lovingly reunited with her beloved husband on February 12, 2026, passing peacefully with her family by her side.
Marlene was born on August 4, 1937, in Six Lakes, the tenth child of Stanley and Vera (Leach) Wood. She was raised in Six Lakes and graduated from Edmore High School with the Class of 1955. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Omar Gilbert. The two were united in marriage on October 27, 1956, and together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with four children.
Marlene dedicated many years of hard work to Hitachi Magnetics before retiring in 1994. While she valued her work, her greatest joy was always her family. She cherished time spent traveling, gathering around the table for card games, and enthusiastically cheering on her Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and for her favorite players, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether celebrating victories or weathering losses, she remained a loyal and spirited fan.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Floris (Renee) Wood of Toledo, OH; her children, Darlene Strong of Arlington, TX, Diane Gilbert of Edmore, MI, Douglas (Joyce) Gilbert of Crystal, MI, and Dana (Randy) Pierce of Six Lakes, MI. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Michael (Anna) Gilbert, Teri (Jim Durfee) Gilbert, Megan (Donnie) Williamson, Jessica Strong, Amber (William) Hoyt, Alexander (Evelyn) Strong, Cayla Pierce, and Joshua Pierce. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Braydon and Bryson Williamson; Lydia and Evelyn Gilbert; Cayden Strong; Ryder and Spencer Lukens; and Luna Hoyt. Also, bonus great-grandkids Cooper & Rylee. Each of them was a source of immense pride and joy in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Ada, Jackie, Luciene, Clifton, Dennis, Richard, Barry, Jerry, Larry and Jim; and her loving husband, Omar, who passed away in 1989.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Janowicz Family Funeral Homes in Edmore and will take place on Thursday, February 19,2026 at 11 AM, with Reverend Christina Jensen officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to the time of service.
Marlene will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Sandra Marie Miller, of Greenville, left this Earth surrounded by her loving family on February 18, 2026 at the age of 54. She was born in Greenville on March 18, 1971, the daughter of Francis Kelley and Geneva Umbenhour.
Sandie found joy in the simple pleasures of life- she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, spending time working on crossword puzzles, playing Monopoly, and coloring on her phone. She was an avid reader of V.C. Andrews novels and enjoyed unwinding watching television, including Sons of Anarchy and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Above all else, Sandie's greatest love was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, her sisters, and her mother. Whether sharing stories, a joke, or laughter, those moments meant everything to her. Her love was steady, deep, and unconditional. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceding Sandie in death are her father, Francis Kelley and her husband, Carl Miller. Sandie is survived by her children, Tia Kelley, Samantha Miller, Carl Miller II, and Cecilia Casa; mother, Geneva Umbenhour; grandchildren, Cayden Miller, Eirabella Kelley, Tru Valdez, and Addyson Sheldon; sisters, Brenda (Trevor) Husted, Katrina Williams, and Kristy (Modesto) Mata; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Bob Beckett at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. A luncheon will follow at the Ionia Fishing and Hunting Club. John Boutelle Reynolds was born in Greenville, Michigan, on June 20, 1949, to John and Jeanne Reynolds. He grew up in Mt. Clemens, where he attended Mt. Clemens High School before moving to Sarasota, Florida, in 1967 and graduating from Riverview High School.
John went on to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinematography and Videography from the University of South Florida. A lifelong visual artist at heart, he also found great joy in still photography—especially capturing the beauty of Michigan in the fall, his favorite season to photograph.
John later served as a bridge tender and operator throughout Sarasota County, a role he dedicated himself to for many years until his retirement in 2011.
As a child, John was an avid soap box racer and won frequently. Throughout his life, he continued to seek out hobbies that challenged and entertained him. He enjoyed tackling his own home repairs, always eager to learn something new. John loved classic cars, music, movies, and television shows, and he had a deep affection for all things Sci-Fi. Known for his quirky sense of humor, he loved to be silly and bring laughter to those around him.
The youngest of five children, John is preceded in death by his sisters Bonnie Mooney and Betty Valentine, and his brother Edwin. He is survived by his sister Connie Beard of Fenton, Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
A gathering and sharing of memories was held on Tuesday, February 10th, from 5–7 p.m. at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, located at 40 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota, FL 34236.

Janice Lee (Messer) Taylor, age 76, of Six Lakes passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, to Russell and Della Messer, Jan grew up attending Grand Ledge Schools. In 1964, after moving to Lake Odessa, she met the love of her life, Roger Taylor. The two were married in 1966 and shared 59 years together. In her early years, Jan worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing. In 1978, they moved to Lakeview, to purchase Lakeview Lanes. Jan had many entrepreneurial adventures including operating the bowling alley, a trophy shop, video store, flower shop, pizza parlor, and later selling on eBay.Jan loved painting ceramics and teaching others through her painting classes. She could often be found tending her garden with multiple fur babies by her side.She leaves behind her devoted husband, Roger Taylor; her mother, Della Messer; her sons, Troy (Kimberly) Taylor and Tim (Laura) Taylor; her grandsons, Trenton (Casey), Tristan (Megan), and Taydden (Marissa); and her great-grandchildren, GraceLynn, Adessa, and Miles. She is also survived by her brother, Russ (Sue) Messer; nieces Kelly and Amber; nephew Tim Messer; and sister-in-law Rosalie Brown. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Messer; her brother, Randy Messer; her parents-in-law, Robert and Margaret Culver; and her siblings-in-law Robert, Richard, Ronald, Ruth, and Rhoda. Janice will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28th at noon at Brecht's Signature Events, 2195 W Fleck Road, Six Lakes, Michigan, with lunch to follow.
