Lola “Jean” Stover, 85 of Lakeview, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Jean was born on September 22, 1940, in Dunnville, Kentucky to Earl and Stella Swanson.
Jean was a graduate of Champaign-Urbana High School in Illinois. She later married a young sailor in the Navy, Van Ray “Art” Stover on November 22, 1967 in Las Vegas, NV. During Art’s 21 years in the military, Jean and Art lived in California and Japan, and visited many ports of call before eventually settling in Lakeview, Michigan where Art grew up.
In her retirement years, Jean took great joy in her daily afternoon walks around Lakeview; covering up to 4 miles a day, even in her later years. She also loved sitting in the sun, reading James Patterson books, working on crossword puzzles and spending time with her grand dog, Daisy Mae.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her parents; and sister and brother in law, Alfreda and Ross Mitchell of Tolono, Illinois.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara “Bobbie” (Pete) Kain; grandsons Kyle (Alyssa) Kain, and Chad (Rylee) Kain and her precious great granddaughter, Lola Jean Kain. She is also survived by her sisters, Brinda (Ellery) Fugate and Linda (Herb) Grubb, both of Niceville, Florida, along with several nephews and one niece.
Jean was a hard worker, having retired after several years from Hi-Q Manufacturing and Lakeview Laundry, where she made friends who were like family. She was well known and respected in the Lakeview community.
Jean was an avid baseball fan who’s knowledge of the game was unmatched. Along with being a big fan of the Detroit Tigers, some of her happiest moments were spent cheering on Kyle and Chad from the sidelines of their baseball games, occasionally letting the umpires know exactly what she thought of their calls.
Affectionately known as “Muma” by many, Jean’s love, humor and spirited personality touched countless lives and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Per Jean’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Art at the Lakeview Cemetery overlooking Tamarack Lake.
