Frequently Asked Questions

Is it okay to change my password?

Please leave the password as assigned. This allows the newspaper to log onto your account and assist you with troubleshooting.

Can I work on my Obituary Notice and save it without submitting it?

Yes, obituaries can be saved and worked on at a later time. Once you have entered the text, there is a button on the Proof your Notice page that allows you to "Save for Later".

How do I pay for an obituary notice?

Funeral homes that have been established as a billable account may elect to charge the cost of an obituary notice to their account. All other obituaries must be prepaid prior to deadline in order to publish as requested. The card can be either your company's or the family's. If you charge it to the family's card, you will need to change the billing information to match the credit card information. Private party obituaries will need to be pre-paid and verified by the funeral home.

What if I need to make a change or correction to a notice that's already been submitted?

As long as the change is submitted prior to deadline, you may make the change. Simply log in to your account, locate your notice in the "Future Notices" area and "Modify" the order. If you are paying by credit card and you change the cost of the order, you will be credited/charged the correct amount. PLEASE NOTE: Any changes made to the print version will not be reflected on the web version. These changes must be made separately.

Is the preview an accurate representation of how the notice will look in the paper?

Yes.The Daily News publishes a very different obituary from the average newspaper, in that we provide a triple column format with various photo, graphic, and border options to really allow the family to pay an extra special dedication to their loved one. We do our best to have the representation be as accurate as possible. The preview that is provided of your completed obituary notice is a proof of what you have submitted to be published. Please take this opportunity to ensure that spelling, grammar, and wording is how you wish to see it in the paper. All obituaries are read by our staff to further ensure correct spelling and grammar and use of complete sentences. It is possible that we will need to make changes to your obituary to fit our style. This could result in a small increase or refund in your charges. You will receive a second email confirmation if any changes are made.

What if I miss the deadline for publication?

You will need to choose the next available date. If the date is unavailable on your screen, the deadline has passed.

How will I know if the newspaper receives my notice?

You will receive a confirmation email once the order is filed. Orders are processed into the Daily News system as they are created.

Will the notice go online?

Only if you add this upgrade to your online order.

Can a day be added to the order on the last day that it runs?

Once the order reaches its last day of publication, it cannot be extended. You would have to create a new order.

Is JPG the only format that can be used for a photo?

No, you can use jpg, gif, eps, tif and png.

Will the photo in my obituary notice run in color?

No, all obituary notices run black and white in the newspaper. Some photos remain in color on the screen but all will be converted to black and white prior to publication. The photos will run in color on the publication's website (if a color photo was originally uploaded). All images, emblems, and funeral home logos included with the obituary are printed in black and white in the newspaper.

What happens if I get called away while creating an order and return later?

If you have already scheduled the order and accidentally submit it after deadline, it will retain the run date and bill the order. However, it won't appear in the paper. It is very important to "Save for Later" if you are called away while working.

Where will my obituary notice appear in the publication?

All obituary notices appear in the obituary section of our publications. Listings and photos also may appear in a bimonthly Memorial Tributes section.
